A vintage barrel crock from Poterie Renault in the Loire Valley, in sizes from a hefty 5.5 liters up to a monumental 17. Salt-glazed stoneware with the glassy, textured finish the works were famous for.
Why We Chose It
Founded in 1847, Poterie Renault threw salt into the kiln at peak temperature to create its signature glaze, supplying cafes across France for five generations before production ceased. Surviving crocks are the real thing, not a reproduction.
How We'd Style It
Utensils by the stove in the smaller sizes; the big ones hold firewood kindling, baguettes or a dried-branch arrangement by the hearth.
