Returns

The checkerboard kind. End grain stands the wood fibers straight up, so the blade slips between them and the surface closes behind it.

Why We Chose It

The construction serious cooks ask for: easiest on knife edges, slowest to show wear, and simply beautiful joinery. At 20 by 15 inches and an inch and a half thick it sits between a daily board and a full butcher block. Built to order in cherry, maple or walnut.

Good to Know

End grain is thirsty. Oil it more often than a flat board, especially in a dry climate, and never let it soak. The block pattern varies with every board because the wood does.
