Three inches across and just tall enough to matter: the small bowl that turns butter, olive oil or a spoonful of salsa into part of the table setting.

Why We Chose It

Small pieces are where handwork shows most, and these are thrown one at a time in Black Oak Art's Waco, Texas studio with a glazed interior and bare red clay outside. Lined up down the middle of a table they look intentional; stacked in a cabinet they take almost no room.

How We'd Style It

Keep two by the stove for flaky salt and pepper, or set one beside the coupe cereal bowl for honey at breakfast.

Details

  • About 3 in (7.6 cm) wide and 1.25 in (3.2 cm) tall
  • Wheel-thrown stoneware with a glazed interior and unglazed exterior
  • Glazes: white, black, sky blue and moss, plus a soft pink
  • Hand-thrown in Waco, Texas by Black Oak Art
  • Each bowl varies slightly in curve and glaze

Good to Know

This is a condiment-size bowl, not a cereal bowl. It holds a few tablespoons comfortably and is at its best for dips, aioli and softened butter.
